Beach Cottage

Soothing is the feeling that suffuses this light, bright and beachy remodel of a Malibu cottage. Clint Nicholas Design transformed a residence that was previously dark and meandering into a unified, flowing experience. What appears to be one color throughout – white – is a subtle, rich mix of multiple shades: off-white, khaki, buttery tones, and ivories. Sheer curtains add to the translucency. By lining up and sharpening the curves of arched doorways, and adding curvature to the ceiling, the team created clear sightlines through a corridor which ends at a window with a view onto the shimmering ocean and sky – the light at the end of the tunnel, if you will. Linen coverings, woodsy benches and stripped roof beams add rusticity, reinforcing the sense of a strong design narrative that is evident in all environments created by Nicholas and his team.
